Buying hardware in Zimbabwe
Compare a hardware basket line by line before comparing the total. A useful quotation identifies the product, selling unit, supplying branch and what remains unconfirmed.
Make a basket that can be checked
Start with the work schedule from the person doing the job. Separate fittings, fasteners, tools and finishing materials, and retain dimensions or product codes where they matter. Zimbabwe suppliers such as Union, Halsted and Electrosales publish broad ranges, but a catalogue does not establish current stock for your selected counter. Ask each seller to respond against the same list so you can see omissions rather than assume a lower total covers everything.

Resolve differences in the quotation
Mark each response as exact match, proposed alternative or unanswered. A proposed alternative needs approval from the person responsible for compatibility. Keep delivery and other quoted services outside the goods subtotal until you understand their scope. If one seller supplies only part of the basket, compare the cost and effort of completing the missing lines rather than treating the quote as complete.
| Compare | Keep explicit |
|---|---|
| Goods | Code, dimensions, selling unit and quantity |
| Availability | Selected branch response, not catalogue presence |
| Release | Collector, counter and outstanding lines |

Keep collection tied to the latest version
A collector needs the final item list and the named release point. Send that list after revisions are agreed, and tell the merchant who is collecting. At handover, count by line and record visible discrepancies. If a substitute appears without approval, ask the counter to resolve it before it disappears into a mixed building load. Merchant payment confirmation and physical collection should have separate timestamps and evidence.

Enquiry brief to adapt
Please quote the attached room-by-room basket using the dimensions and selling units shown. Identify anything excluded, any proposed alternative and the counter that would release each line. Keep transport as a separate line so I can compare collection with delivery. The installer will review specification changes before I approve the amount; the collector is authorised only to collect the final accepted list.

Putting the record into practice
A basket has ten lines. One quote covers all ten; another covers eight and offers two alternatives. The buyer resolves the alternatives and transport before comparing the final totals. The decision is based on a complete basket, not a headline amount.
Keep this with the order
Before you proceed
- One specification sent to every seller.
- Alternatives accepted by the responsible installer.
- Unanswered lines remain visible.
- Collector holds the current version.
- Selected counter and release reference confirmed before travel.
