Buying stockfeed in Zimbabwe

Write the species, production-stage product and pack size on every feed line. Compare the actual feed quantities and receiving arrangements rather than treating all bags as interchangeable.

Build the feed schedule with the operator

Ask the person responsible for the animals to identify the required products, obtaining suitable technical advice where needed. Profeeds and National Foods describe stockfeed offerings, but the existence of a range does not determine the feeding programme for a particular farm. Preserve product names and stage descriptions in the order. This guide does not prescribe a ration or predict animal performance.

Compare bags on the same basis

Ask each seller to quote the same product and pack size, or to identify differences clearly. Keep the required quantity, available quantity and outstanding balance separate. Ask about collection, transport and applicable storage instructions before increasing the order to obtain a different commercial price. The receiver's storage arrangements and the farm's requirements should shape what can actually be accepted.

Count a mixed load by product

At loading, check each label rather than only the total bag count. Separate products intended for different groups of animals and retain the seller's documentation. Record damaged packaging and missing quantities promptly. If another person moves the feed after the merchant hands it over, preserve that second movement as a separate handover instead of asking the first collector to confirm farm receipt.

Enquiry brief to adapt

Please quote the exact feed description and pack size on the farm manager's schedule. Show the number of bags as well as the total stated weight, and identify any proposed change in product or packaging. Confirm the release arrangement and provide the relevant handling information. The manager must approve changes to the feeding requirement; the collector cannot make that decision simply to complete the pickup.

Putting the record into practice

A delivery contains the right total number of bags but too many of one feed stage and too few of another. The recipient records the mismatch against the product schedule and contacts the seller. The correct overall count does not close the outstanding line.

Keep this with the order

Before you proceed

  • Farm-approved product list retained.
  • Pack sizes reconciled.
  • Storage and transport instructions passed on.
  • Mixed load counted line by line.
  • Merchant release and final farm receipt recorded independently.
