Ordering animal-health supplies in Zimbabwe

Keep professional animal-health advice separate from the purchasing process. Once the appropriate adviser identifies a product, the order should preserve its identity, quantity and handling instructions.

Route the question before ordering

A request about an animal's condition needs the appropriate veterinary or technical advice, not a shopping comparison. Fivet describes animal-health support and publishes local contact routes. Use the relevant team to establish what advice or service is needed. This guide does not diagnose animals, recommend medicines or provide doses. A family member funding a farm should carry the adviser's specification through unchanged.

Ask for product-specific collection requirements

Confirm the exact product, pack size and quantity. Ask the supplier which storage and transport instructions apply, and make sure the collector can follow them before accepting a collection date. If the requested product is unavailable, refer the alternative back to the adviser. Similar names and prices are not enough to establish that two products can be substituted.

Retain traceability at the farm

At handover, record supplied labels, batch and expiry details where applicable, as well as visible package condition. Give the person using the goods the instructions provided by the supplier. Keep a record of any unfulfilled line and the response to a discrepancy. Receipt establishes what the farm obtained; it cannot prove clinical effectiveness or a handling history nobody observed.

Enquiry brief to adapt

Please confirm whether this enquiry requires an appointment for advice or can proceed as the specified product order. The farm's adviser will confirm the selection and review any proposed substitute. State the pack, quantity and applicable handling instructions before collection is arranged. Give the farm manager the product documents separately from the payment reference, so the person receiving the order can check the actual goods.

Putting the record into practice

A collector is offered an alternative to the product on a farm's approved list. The collector records the proposed product and asks the adviser before accepting it. The payer changes the commercial order only after that decision. The example is about approval, not veterinary treatment.

Keep this with the order

Before you proceed

  • Advice obtained before selecting treatment products.
  • Product and pack identity explicit.
  • Handling instructions obtained.
  • Alternatives returned for professional approval.
  • Supplied batch and expiry information retained with the farm record.
